Large "trèfle" Coffee Table Designed By George Ciancimino For Mobilier International. 1960
In 1968, Giancarlo Ciancimino designed an elegant and ingenious collection for Mobilier International: modular furniture built around an extruded aluminum profile shaped like a four-leaf clover.
A symbol of technical modernity and aesthetic balance.
This clover-shaped profile, the collection’s signature feature, combines ease of assembly with formal coherence. Connected to crossbars made of pressed aluminum with a natural anodized finish, it supports the glass top. This ingenious system ensures unprecedented modularity: the elements can be assembled, disassembled, and reconfigured without complex tools.
In keeping with the spirit of its time, the system accommodates various interchangeable tops (glass, marble, travertine, wood).
Today, Giancarlo Ciancimino’s “Trèfle” collection stands as a testament to a pivotal moment in the history of French design.
It reflects the ambition of an era when furniture became at once architecture, a system, and an aesthetic.
