Jivko Sedlarski Bronze Coffee Table Base with Green and Gold Patina, “Aquatic & Frog” Theme, circa 1970
Stunning sculptural coffee table base in patinated bronze from the 20th century, circa 1970, by sculptor Jivko Sedlarski. Of Bulgarian origin, Jivko Sedlarski chose to live in Upper Brittany, located in western France between Rennes and Mont Saint-Michel. No signature—as was often the case, these works were not signed—but easily recognizable as his work
The base is meticulously crafted in the shape of water lily leaves with a verdigris patina, upon which rests a gilded bronze frog. Three slender stems topped with blooms and leaves form the ideal structure to hold a circular or oval glass tray
The piece as a whole exhibits a beautiful organic elegance that blends Art Nouveau with the naturalistic design of the 1970s
