Afra and Tobia Scarpa
Tobia Scarpa was born in Venice in 1935, where he earned a degree in architecture.
Together with his wife Afra Bianchin (1937–2011), he founded one of the most successful and well-known architectural firms; together they created many innovative projects in the field of industrial design.
Numerous publications have been dedicated to their work, and various projects they created are on display in major museums around the world
The Italian furniture giant Cassina, originally Amedeo Cassina, was founded by brothers Cesare (1909–1979) and Umberto (1910–1992) Cassina in 1927 in Meda, Italy. Although the factory initially specialized in creating custom-made wooden furniture and high-end interiors, the two brothers decided in the 1950s to take a different direction, anticipating the surge in demand for mass-produced furniture. Cassina therefore holds the undisputed credit for introducing industrial design to Italy, collaborating with some of the world’s most successful designers.
