Porcelain Backsplash, Meissen, 19th Century
Porcelain cake stand, Meissen, 19th century
Dimensions: Height 21.5 cm x upper diameter 22.5 cm x base diameter 13.5 cm
Porcelain, polychrome glazes, pure gold
This refined centerpiece is an excellent example of the sculptural and pictorial mastery achieved by the Meissen manufactory during the 19th century.
Crafted from fine porcelain, the piece is distinguished by a complex and elegant architectural structure: the upper bowl is entirely defined by meticulous reticulated work, creating a delicate geometric interlacing of the highest technical quality. The body rises from a shaped stem, connected to a rounded circular base, embellished with raised ribs that lend dynamism and sculptural depth to the whole.
The decorative scheme is of rare finesse, characterized by a pictorial cycle in polychrome enamels inspired by nature. Within circular medallions and on the bottom of the bowl, meticulous freehand ornithological motifs stand out, featuring colorful birds captured in natural poses on flowering branches. The stem and base are further embellished with delicate bouquets of flowers (fleurs des Indes) and small insects, arranged with expert compositional balance. The contours and edges are finished in pure gold, applied with a brush, which enhances the undulating lines clearly inspired by the Rococo style.
The condition is excellent: the brilliance of the glaze, the vividness of the pigments, and the integrity of the gilding attest to the very high quality of craftsmanship and the excellent care the piece has received over time.
The work, like all our other items, will be sold accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
