Thisrefined decorative column is a fine example ofplaster sculpture,characterized by a cylindrical shaft of remarkableproportional balance. The work stands out for itsrichly illustrated iconography, featuring, in thecentral section, astanding female figure.The figure’s facial features and drapery are rendered through askillful use of high relief,a technique that lends sculptural depth and a dynamic interplayof light and shadow, framing the effigy within ornamental elements thatenhance its compositional verticality.

Theshaft rests on a solid,molded base,embellished with dense motifs ofacanthus leavesand symmetrical volutes—distinctive stylistic elements derived from the Corinthian orderbut reinterpreted here according to the eclectic tasteof the early 20th century.

Thecapital at the top formally echoes the decorations of thebase, unifying the structure into a harmonious whole with greatvisual impact.

Stylistically,the piece can be attributed to the early20th century,a period in which the revival of neoclassical sculptureblended with new decorative sensibilities.

Ofexceptional significance is the object’s historical provenance; it was oncepart of the private collection of the renowned Brescian artist EliodoroCoccoli(1880–1974)

.The condition is excellent,with an originalsurfacepatina that enhances the textural quality of the plaster, displaying slight andelegant signs of wear perfectly consistent with the period andthe authenticity of the piece.

The workis currently on display in the monographic exhibition “Eliodoro Coccoli:Magnificent Draftsman” at the “Antichità SantaGiulia” gallery through December 31, 2026
