E. Blancher, "leapfrog Games," A Neoclassical Enamel Plaque From Limoges
A beautiful enamel-on-copper plaque by Ernest Blanchet (1855–1935) in Limoges.
A neoclassical grisaille scene on a black background, which takes on a slight bluish tint in the light, based on a drawing by the French sculptor and draftsman Jean-Guillaume Moitte (1746–1810), titled “Le jeu de saute mouton” (The Game of Leapfrog).
This classical-style composition depicts nymphs, satyrs, and fauns frolicking.
The enamel work is exceptionally delicate, and the modeling is superb.
Beautiful luster, impossible to capture in a photograph. The plaque is slightly domed in its original state.
Signed “E. Blancher Limoges” in enamel on the back.
