With a delicate drawing and velvety tones in pink and beige, the painter Sofia Martins de Souza created at the end of the 19th century this bust of a young woman of infinite sweetness.

Sofia Martins de Souza, born Sofia de Souza, is a Portuguese painter born in 1870 in Porto.
With her sister Aurélia Maria de Souza, also a painter, they followed the same path:
Studying with Costa Lima then the Marquis de Oliveira in Porto, they specialized first in the representation of children, flowers and landscapes,
They then moved to Paris where they studied at the Académie Julian under the direction of Jean-Paul Laurens and Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant.

Sofia de Souza died on November 28, 1960 in Porto.
Some of her works are kept at the Soares dos Reis Museum, the Porto art museum.
