Pair Of Gilded Bronze Andirons Decorated With Lion’s Paws – Neo-gothic Style – 19th Century
An important pair of gilded bronze fireplace andirons in the Neo-Gothic style, dating from the 19th century, accompanied by a twisted bronze crossbar.
Each andiron features a vertical post decorated with engraved Gothic motifs and stylized foliage, topped by a lanceolate finial.
The lower section is adorned with an imposing lion’s muzzle in relief, crowned with a fleur-de-lis and extended by a curved element. The entire piece rests on an arcaded base, ending in stepped feet.
The uprights are embellished with movable rings and circular side supports. The connecting bar, twisted along its entire length, ends in two spearheads with fleurons.
The chiseling and cast iron work are of fine quality, particularly evident in the detailing of the lion muzzles, foliage, and architectural ornaments.
