Large Painted Triptych – Medieval Scene In A Lakeside Landscape – 19th Century
An important decorative triptych painted on canvas, dating from the 19th century, depicting a medieval-inspired scene set in a vast waterside landscape.
The composition is brought to life by figures in richly detailed medieval costumes: long gowns made of colorful, ornate fabrics; elaborate hennins and headdresses for the women; and doublets, hose, and hoods for the men. The central panel is particularly enlivened by a group of elegant ladies and a flower seller.
The two side panels extend the scene with architecture, gardens, and figures. The pointed-arch compositions reinforce the neo-Gothic character of the ensemble.
Antique frames made of stained wood. Visible wear, crazing, and small losses, consistent with the piece’s age.
