8-sided Miner's Rave Lamp (crézieu) – 19th-century Folk Art.
An authentic and rare 19th-century oil miner's lamp, known as a "rave" or "crézieu."
Unlike ordinary models with round reservoirs, this example features a superb octagonal reservoir with eight geometric sides made of wrought iron and steel. This distinctive feature makes it a highly sought-after, high-end model, traditionally associated with foremen or high-ranking miners (in the Saint-Étienne region).
Features and condition:
• Complete model: Comes with its original hinged bracket (allowing the lamp to be tilted as the oil level dropped) and its functional wick clip attached to its chain.
• Details: Cap topped with a small metal rooster (a symbol of vigilance).
• Condition: Very good aesthetic and mechanical condition, superb period patina with no perforating corrosion. Metal is sound and sturdy.
