Empire-style Mahogany Armchair
Empire-style armchair. Circa 1810. Crafted from solid Cuban mahogany and mahogany veneer. The front legs are turned into double balusters (known as “Jacob legs”) and finished with lotus flower carvings. The rear legs are saber-shaped. The backrest is curved and square in shape. The sinuous armrests are adorned with foliage scrolls at the top and terminate in palmettes and carved vases with foliage motifs. The armrest supports are molded and carved with palmettes. The craftsmanship is of very high quality in terms of both lines and finish. This piece is reminiscent of the work of a master chairmaker such as Pierre-Benoît Marcion or Jean-Baptiste-Bernard Demay. The webbing and spring upholstery is in very good condition. Upholstered in patinated havana leather.
