Gaston Anglade: The Creuse Valley And The Crozant Heather Fields

Gaston ANGLADE (1854–1919) – Landscape in the Style of the Crozant School, oil on canvas

A superb oil on canvas depicting a bucolic landscape in soft, harmonious tones

In the foreground, lush vegetation, dotted with heather in shades of pink and purple, lines a small path that draws the eye toward a river with peaceful waters. Tall, lush green trees frame the composition, while in the background, hills in mauve and earthy tones are bathed in the delicate light of late afternoon.

The work captivates with its subtle color palette, its contrasts between deep greens and pinkish tones, and the depth of its landscape. It sensitively evokes the poetic atmosphere of the Creuse Valley, which inspired many artists in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Dimensions: 73 × 92 cm for the canvas; 86 × 106 cm with the frame.
