A student in Lyon of Lepage and Chaine, he appeared at the Salon de Lyon from 1856 to 1865 and the Salon de Paris from 1864 and 1865. He exhibited in Lyon until 1896. Professor of decorative art at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Lyon.
