925/1000 Sterling Silver Planters – Silversmith Wilhelm Binder, Germany, 1910 Centerpiece
A 925/1000 sterling silver tabletop planter in the neoclassical style, crafted in Germany in the early 20th century by silversmith Wilhelm Binder, based in Schwäbisch Gmünd.
Shaped like a navette, this planter features an openwork bowl resting on an ornate pedestal, supported by columns reminiscent of ancient architecture.
The upper section is adorned with a frieze of Greek motifs alternating with garlands of flowers and foliage.
In the center of each large side is an oval medallion framed by moldings, surmounted by a ribbon bow and accompanied by floral drapery.
The lower part of the bowl is entirely openwork, featuring long vertical cutouts ending in scrolls.
Two side handles with movable rings complete the design.
The interior has a vermeil finish.
The design combines Louis XVI decorative elements, Greek fret friezes, garlands, and classical-inspired columns.
Hallmarks: Three hallmarks on the base:
Crescent moon and crown, the German national silver hallmark introduced in 1888.
925, corresponding to the fineness of 925-th part sterling silver.
