Painting Depicting A Battle Scene
Oil painting on canvas depicting a battle, late 17th–early 18th century. The work depicts a lively battle scene, with armed knights and horses engaged in combat in an open landscape, dominated in the background by fortifications and a cloudy sky. The work stands out for its exceptionally dynamic composition and can be attributed to the circle of Francesco Graziani (known as Ciccio Napoletano) or to artists in the Caravaggio/Battaglia tradition, such as Jacques Courtois (the Burgundian) and the Neapolitan/Northern tradition of the genre.
It features a beautiful wooden frame with gilded inlays.
Dimensions: 190 cm x 156 cm including frame—canvas 116 x 150 cm
