Antique Painting Landscape With Stream Mill XVIII Century Original
Oil on canvas. 18th-century Venetian school.
A large landscape depicting the foothills of the Alps, crossed by a stream flowing toward the mill in the foreground on the right, while numerous figures of common folk populate the path leading to the building, engaged in various activities; in particular, two fishermen with their nets stand out in the foreground at the center.
Previously attributed to Giuseppe Zais (1709–1784), a Venetian painter known for his expansive landscapes animated by figures, characterized by an airy luminosity and meticulous attention to the depiction of nature.
Restored and re-painted, the painting is presented in an early 20th-century frame.
