Very Large Louis XVI Lamp In Gilded Bronze
Artist: Gustave Lévy Bronzier
Very large Louis XVI-style lamp, a four-armed candelabrum in gilded bronze. The green onyx base rests on four finely chiseled legs topped with Corinthian capitals. This base is adorned with drapery. The shaft consists of an ovoid vase featuring beautiful mascarons as handles, embellished with serpents! The four volute-shaped arms are decorated with clusters of fruit in relief and highly realistic eagle heads. Each arm is fitted with cups featuring rows of pearls; the finials are decorated with plant motifs, and the lampshades with clusters of pearls. This lamp is in excellent condition; having undergone no restoration, it has no missing parts. The bronze castings are signed by the foundryman Gustave Lévy, who was active in the 19th century during the reign of Napoleon III. Electrified to current standards.
