Ambrym Slit Drum, Vanuatu, Tribal Art, Oceanic Art, Oceania, Instrument, 295 Cm
A very big slit drum from Vanuatu featuring three carved heads. Slit drums from the island of Ambrym are still used today to communicate within villages and to provide the rhythm for traditional dances on the “Nasara” danse area. A reenactment is on display at the Quai Branly Museum in Paris, featuring slit drums from the same village. These majestic forms, typical of Ambrym Island, have made these totem drums one of the most powerful symbols of this region of the South Pacific. The stylized faces evoke the curved tusks of pigs (a symbol of prosperity). Totem sculpture mounted on a pedestal, suitable for indoor or outdoor display (Hydroguge treatment recommended for outdoor use). Approx. 295 x 35 x 35 cm / €4,200 on pedestal.
