Still Life With Fruit And Dogs, Dutch School, Late 18th Century
Large still life with fruit and two dogs – Late 18th century
Very good condition, modern wooden frame
Frame 128x96 cm
Large oil on canvas from the late 18th century, in the tradition of the great Flemish and Dutch still lifes of the 17th century.
A glass bowl filled with peaches rests on a table covered with a rich blue-green fabric with gold fringe and a white drape. In the upper part, bunches of grapes and vine leaves form a garland of foliage.
In the foreground, a earthenware dish containing apples is flanked by two dogs: a greyhound on the left and a small King Charles-type spaniel on the right, with white and red fur, sitting on a rich red velvet cushion with gold patterns.
A lovely painting distinguished by the richness of its composition, the precision of the rendering of the fruit, fabrics, and animals, as well as its luminous contrasts.
