Athlete's Torso In The Classical Style, Reconstituted Marble Powder, Italy, Ca. 1930
A male torso modeled after the Roman style, rendered in the spirit of classical statuary. The head, turned to the right, is crowned with short curls. The athletic torso is finely modeled: pectorals, abdominals, and groin line. The back is rendered with equal attention to detail (spine, shoulder blades, gluteal muscles). The piece is presented as a fragment: the arms are severed at the shoulders, and the legs are broken off at mid-thigh.It features a beautiful brown-ochre patina of age, with mineral deposits in places, giving it a highly decorative “found in an excavation” appearance. The piece is mounted on two iron rods within a rough-hewn travertine base.A decorative piece in the Grand Tour style, it complements both classic and contemporary interiors.
