Still Life by Francine Chimène, a French painter based in Chatou, near Paris. The composition features a white jug and a bouquet of flowers in a luminous color palette dominated by yellows, ochres, and oranges.
Chimène’s strength lies in her ability to convey emotion through color. The warmth of the tones and the rhythm of the shapes and lines lend the composition a particularly vibrant energy, while the objects remain recognizable despite the progressive simplification of their forms.
Her artistic language evolves from a Post-Impressionist sensibility toward a style of painting that is increasingly synthetic and close to abstraction, while still retaining the reassuring presence of the real world.
On the reverse side is an old exhibition label, now partially missing, bearing the printed words “Titre ou sujet” and a barely legible handwritten title that appears to begin with “Fleurs…”.
The reverse side of the canvas also bears traces of a previous composition or an unfinished sketch, offering an interesting insight into the artist’s creative process and the reuse of the canvas.
