Antique Painting Signed Vincenzo Caprile Female Nude XIX Century

Pastels on cardboard. Signed lower right.
The Neapolitan painter Vincenzo Caprile, who received his artistic training at the School of Fine Arts in Naples, also became involved with the Resina School, an Italian painting movement that developed in the wake of Verismo and was akin to the Macchiaioli movement, where he was able to experiment with rendering landscapes and nature from life.
Although he also made a name for himself in portrait painting, becoming the official portraitist of the House of Savoy, Caprile always preferred painting landscapes and portraits of ordinary people.
His work is characterized by a nimble brushstroke and luminous, soft colors capable of delicate nuances—qualities he also masterfully conveyed through the pastel technique, as seen in this delicate female nude. Although this subject was less common in his oeuvre, it effectively demonstrates his skill in rendering light and color.
The work is presented in a late 19th-century frame.
