Carved Wooden Bust Of A Laughing Child, Late 19th Century
A carved wooden bust inspired by the famous Italian Renaissance model attributed to Desiderio da Settignano. Crafted by assembling several pieces of softwood, it is distinguished by a particularly skillful use of the wood’s natural grain, whose concentric lines follow the contours of the cheeks and forehead, emphasizing the subject’s mischievous expression. The gaze, equally lively, is enhanced by glass eyes.
Date: late 19th century.
Dimensions: height 35 cm - width 27 cm.
Two shrinkage cracks are worth noting: one runs vertically down the front of the bust, while the second, located on the right side of the head, has been filled with an old gilded patch.
