Suisse Davis Grandfather Clock With A Date Plate From 1686
Artist: Ambühl
A Swiss *foliot* (verge-and-foliot) clock from Davos, dated 1686, complete with its original weights. The historic Davos clock—a timepiece with wooden gears—is a renowned example of Swiss folk craftsmanship. Created by the Ambühl family in the Sertig Valley (near Davos), these rustic clocks were constructed almost entirely from wood, making them affordable for the rural population of the time. Now highly sought-after collector's items, both period originals and replicas can be found today in various Swiss museums (such as the Rhaetian Museum).
