Large Satsuma Dish
We are selling this large deep dish, 31 cm in diameter, dating from the Meiji period in the late 19th century.
The mark on the reverse bears an inscription meaning “Great Japan” and is associated with Japanese production from that era. This is a Satsuma ceramic, associated with the Shimazu clan, which ruled the province of Satsuma.
The design features snow-capped Mount Fuji in the background, surrounded by landscapes, temples, and cherry blossoms.
The signature is attributed to the workshop of Kitamura Yaichiro. There are at least 60 figures in the design, drawn and painted with great precision.
