Antique Chinese porcelain guardian dogs, also known as Fo dogs.
This true pair is modelled seated on square pedestal bases, each with finely detailed scrolling manes and expressive faces. The male holds a brocade ball, symbolising power and authority, while the female holds a cub, representing protection and nurturing.
The figures are covered in a striking turquoise blue monochrome glaze, pooling subtly in the recesses and thinning naturally on the raised details, enhancing the sculptural modelling. The bases are unglazed.
Height: approx. 20 cm.
These decorative guardian figures were traditionally intended to protect the home or interior space and make a strong visual statement, ideal for display on a mantelpiece, console, or within an Asian art collection.
Condition: Perfect condition.
