Very (very!) Large Lebrillo Dish, Sevilla Area, Andalusia Spain Early 19th Cty
Artist: District De Triana, Seville (andalousie, Espagne)
Huge, giant and impressive 'LEBRILLO' (basin) ceramic cup,
early 19th cty,
with zoomorphic decoration fromTriana district of Sevilla, Spain (please check last photo of this announcement for other examples, models similar).
The main decoration here shows a graceful running horse.
Pigment colors are obtained from cobalt oxides, copper green, antimony yellow and manganese (purple to brown).
The summary folk art decoration is made from stencils. It is worth emphasizing the particular brilliance of the colors and the strong decorative interest of this type of dish.
Dimensions :
Despite 2 chips starting from the edge (stabilized with an infiltration glue), the plate remains exceptionally in good condition considering its size, and without any restoration (most of these very large plates are usually stapled and/or restored). The old frame used as a hanging system was custom-made with very thick copper strips.
!!! Please check on latest photos another similar dish sold last year, and also a very large pitcher also featuring a horse available on my Proantic site... The matching piece would obviously have some style!
