Quinta 605 Chair By Mario Botta For Alias, Circa 1985
Artist: Mario Botta
Quinta Chair, Model 605, designed by Swiss architect and designer Mario Botta for Alias in the 1980s.
Made entirely of black metal, it combines a geometric structure of lacquered steel with a seat and backrest made of perforated sheet steel. The tall, slightly curved backrest extends the structure in a rigorous composition where the lines, planes, and transparency of the perforated metal are integral to the design. The Quinta is part of Mario Botta’s research into furniture, conducted in parallel with his work as an architect. Its highly graphic construction and the apparent use of industrial materials are characteristic of this period of postmodern Italian design in the 1980s.
Manufacturer: Alias, Italy, circa 1985.
