In 1812, the German silversmith Wolfers opened his first workshop in Brussels. The company was then well on its way to becoming one of the most prosperous manufacturers of innovative silverware and cutlery. The company’s founder, Louis Wolfers, was succeeded by his son Philippe (1858–1929), who gained widespread renown between 1897 and 1907. His Art Nouveau jewelry designs were the key to his success. The 1958 Brussels World’s Fair cemented the reputation of the world’s most famous Belgian silversmith.
