Early 19th-century Skeleton Clock
This Empire/Restoration-era portico clock is distinguished by its skeletonized movement with circular plates made of solid brass. The openwork dial, crafted from chiseled gilded bronze, features engraved Roman numerals and reveals a pin escapement with a balance wheel suspended by a silk thread, adorned with a sunburst-patterned lens. The case houses a movement with two gear trains—a timepiece and a rear gong striking mechanism driven by a count wheel—marked with the watchmaker’s hallmark P.D. 1907. The entire piece is supported by two barrel-shaped legs adorned with stars in relief, anchored to a solid base of antique green marble resting on four patinated bronze spindle-shaped feet, threaded beneath the base.
