*Menelaus, king of Sparta, was one of the major figures of the legendary Trojan War, which he launched to recover his wife Helen, who had been abducted by the Trojan prince Paris. Our bust is a bronze cast based on the Hellenistic marble statue of thePasquino(from the 3rd century B.C.). The Lacedaemonian warrior is depicted wearing a helmet richly adorned with animal figures and a mythological scene.
