Important Pair Of Large Riveted Iron Castle Lanterns – Circa 1900

A superb and rare pair of large, six-sided outdoor lanterns made of wrought iron and riveted iron, dating from around 1900.These pieces stand out for their exceptional size andhigh-quality craftsmanship.
Of great architectural elegance, they feature a largehexagonal dome at the top, crowned with a gilded ball.Their Louis XIV or Regency-style design is enhanced byrefined ironwork details, notably stylized volute (S-shaped) consolesbeneath the dome, as well as a magnificent lower base with curved legs thatalso end in scrollwork.
Both lanterns open via a pivot door equipped with atoggle latch and wrought-iron hinges.Authenticity and patina:Originally designed for gas lighting (the internaltubing system remains visible), they are in their superb originalcondition as found. The domes and uprights reveal significant underlying original gilding(leaf gold or antique gold paint) that reemerges beneaththe surface oxidation, offering an incomparable authentic patina.Dimensions: Height: 110 cm Diameter (corner to corner): 86 cm Diameter (side to side): 57 cmCondition:Excellent structural condition, very sound, sturdy riveted iron, no majordeformation.
