Charles-jean Brun : “the Great Bouquet”
Charles-JeanBrun (1910–1946) : “The Large Bouquet,” oil on paper mountedon pH-neutral cardboard, 58.5 × 45 cm, stretched onto a canvas-covered stretcher and set in a beautifulcarved and gilded Art Deco wooden frame, 79 × 67 cm (minor imperfections).
Circa 1930–40.
When we bought it, it was poorly glued to this canvas, which we could seewas painted, so we asked the restorer to peel it off tolay it flat and see what was underneath !
Well, as the last photo shows, it was just a fragment of wood paneling that had been reused as a backing. What a shame!
But this sumptuous bouquet of arums, lilacs, and cyclamens stands on its own thanks toits commanding presence.
Feel free to ask us for photos or additional information by email or phone.
