Roof Cat With A Rounded Back – Glazed Terracotta, Attributed To Bavent
A large roof finial in polychrome glazed terracotta, depicted standing with an arched back and its tail raised. Its glass eyes give it a particularly lively expression.
Its creamy white coat, dotted with brown and ochre highlights, is covered with a glossy glaze featuring a fine crackle pattern. The modeling accentuates the tufts of fur and the animal’s expressive posture.
The legs feature mounting holes corresponding to its function as a roof ornament. A decorative piece full of character that also fits well in an interior setting.
Attribution: pottery from Mesnil-de-Bavent, Normandy.
