Napoleon III-style Drop-leaf Desk In Blackened Wood With Burl – 19th Century
An elegant Napoleon III-era drop-leaf secretary desk, crafted from blackened wood and richly detailed, with a contrasting interior of light wood and burl.
The front is framed by two imposing fluted column-like side posts, accented with turned elements and topped with carved decorations.
The upper section is adorned with carved plant motifs and a panel with vertical fluting, giving the piece a striking architectural presence.
The large flap reveals a writing surface lined with blue felt, as well as an interior fitted with four small drawers arranged in two rows.
The contrast between the blackened wood on the exterior and the light-colored burl on the interior is particularly decorative.
The lower section features three drawers, while the upper section also includes a drawer. Locks and keyholes complete the ensemble.
A piece of fine cabinetry, both elegant and functional, characteristic of the historicist taste of the second half of the 19th century.
Condition reflects its age, with some marks, minor wear, and veneer damage visible in the photographs.
