Empire Period Mirror In Gilt And Blackened Wood – Shell Pediment – 19th Century
Empire Period Mirror in Gilt and Blackened Wood – Shell Pediment – 19th Century. Superb Empire period mirror in light wood (burl/maple) adorned with blackened columns and rich carved and gilded wood ornaments. Description: This mirror is distinguished by its elegant neoclassical architecture: Two black cylindrical side columns, topped with finely carved gilt capitals. The pediment is decorated with a large stylized shell framed by scrolls, entirely gilded with gold leaf. The lower section is decorated with a floral and vegetal motif in relief, also gilded. The contrasting black background highlights the carved elements. The whole offers a refined contrast between the satiny light wood, the deep black, and the gilding, typical of the Empire style of the early 19th century. The antique mirror has a slightly pitted silvering and some signs of age, contributing to its authentic charm. Dimensions: Height: 112 cm Width: 55 cm Depth: 9 cm Condition: Sound and stable structure. Gilding in good condition with a light patina. Some signs of wear. Consistent with age. Original mirror with minor alterations to the silvering. 19th century period – Empire style. Ideal for an elegant entrance, classic or Haussmannian living room, Napoleonic/Empire decor. Highlighted above a console or chest of drawers. A strong, authentic decorative piece full of character.
