Rare “Rotorevolver” by Noel and Gouery, 8-shot, 7.5 mm caliber, using fulminate cartridges.
It was manufactured around 1865.
Octagonal rifled barrel decorated with a series of dotted lines, topped by a sighting rib incorporating a high front sight. The left side is marked “Système A Noël – Bté SGDG” within an oval. The right side is marked “J.F.Gouery Canat & Cie – Paris.”
Round frame and slide decorated with foliage. Fixed sight. Radial cylinder removable once the slide is open. The perforations drilled around the circumference of the cylinder allow for the loading of cartridges. The holes drilled on the inner surface accommodate the fulminate pellets.
Firing pin on the right side of the frame. The firing pin can be deactivated using a small safety lever. Folding trigger guard.
Walnut butt plates decorated with carved ribbons. Gripclamp decorated in the same style as the frame. Oval cap featuring the dotted pattern of the barrel on a sand blasted background.
This specimen bears the number 55 stamped on the trigger guard and on the cap.
This piece is in remarkable condition. It hasn't any pitting and has retained its full patina.
History: Although developed well after the fulminate pellet system, this remarkable firearm uses fulminate pellets for percussion.
