19th Bronze: Sig Laporte Voici Une œuvre d'émile Laporte (1858–1907) Intitulée « Pro Patria » —

Here is a work by Émile Laporte (1858–1907) titled “Pro Patria”—also known as “Vercingetorix and His Son.” The original model dates from 1884. There are proofs bearing Émile Laporte’s signature as well as the foundry mark “Siot-Decauville Fondeur Paris.” Here is a suggested appealing sales description: Émile Laporte (1858–1907) – “Pro Patria / Vercingétorix and His Son” A commanding French bronze sculpture with a dark brown patina, depicting the Gallic chieftain Vercingétorix showing the way to his young companion (or son). The powerful posture, winged helmet, and expressive modeling lend the work a decidedly heroic and patriotic character. The work bears the signature of Émile Laporte as well as the stamp of the famous Parisian foundry Siot-Decauville. Created in 1884, this model ranks among the artist’s most famous historical compositions. A proof was also listed in a Belgian auction catalog under the title *Pro Patria / The Path of Duty*. The Parisian firm Siot-Decauville, active from approximately 1881 to 1926, was renowned for the high quality of its art bronzes and the finesse of its patinas.
