Panoramic Watercolor Of Brittany By Guydo – A Scene Of Forgiveness Or A Folk Festival
Artist: Guydo
Original watercolor in panoramic format, signed in the lower right corner by the artist and illustrator Guydo (Baron Joseph Robert Guillaume Le Barrois d’Orgeval, 1868–1930).
This work is characteristic of his Breton period and his role as an observer of local customs.
The watercolor depicts a large outdoor gathering (presumably a “Pardon” or a traditional Breton festival). One can make out a multitude of typical groups: sailors out on the town dancing in a circle, women in traditional Breton headdresses chatting or tending to children, picnics on the grass, musicians in the distance, as well as unique figures such as an old beggar or bourgeois out for a stroll
Yellowed paper with some foxing; see photos
Dimensions: 80 x 19.5 cm
