Part Of A Painted Wooden Sicilian Cart – 19th Century

A fascinating ornamental element from an antique Sicilian cart, made of wood painted during the 19th century.

The panel features rich polychrome decoration with figurative scenes of a historical and chivalric nature, in keeping with the decorative tradition of Sicilian carts, in which epic episodes, battles, and figures of warriors were among the most characteristic iconographic elements.

The composition is divided into two painted scenes, framed by ornamental motifs and joined in the center by a vertical carved wooden element, surmounted by a small sculpted figure.

The object retains a beautiful vintage patina, with wear, missing sections, and signs of aging consistent with its era and original function.

An interesting example of 19th-century Sicilian folk art, which today also serves as a particularly decorative wall piece.
