China, 18th
Kangxi Period (1661–1722)
Height : 10,8cm
Provenance :
European private collection
For a parrot of comparable size serving as a "toy", see:
- The Copeland Collection: Chinese and Japanese Ceramic Figures, William Sargent, 1991, pp. 88/89, Fig. 36.
Most small-scale parrots generally take the form of water droppers. This example is unusual in having no aperture and serving solely as a decorative object. The sancai glaze, applied in splashes, recalls the so- called ‘egg-and-spinach’ decoration.
A tiny chip at the tip of the beak. Otherwise in perfect condition.
