Late 19th–early 20th century, Satsuma style, signed 錦山造 (Kinzan-zō)
Important polychrome ceramic statuette depicting a bijin (Japanese beauty) holding a fan, dressed in a richly enamelled and gilt-decorated kimono. Edo-style coiffure. The enamel tone suggest a production in the Satsuma-revival tradition. A work of impressive detail, hand-painted throughout.
The base bears the signature 錦山造 (Kinzan-zō, "made by Kinzan").
