Japanese Cast-Iron Ikebana Vase – Meiji Period (1868 – 1912)

An antique, round, cast-iron vase that flares elegantly toward the rim and features two loop handles for carrying or hanging. The vase has a rough textured surface and is decorated in low relief with a bamboo leaf and three water striders gliding across an implied water plane.
The iron has developed a deep, rich patina which enhances the piece’s antique character.

Note: the bamboo handle is a later addition.
