Large Handmade Denim Patchwork Quilt, Oregon, Usa, 1996
Hand-sewn quilt made up of 1,008 squares (5 x 5 cm each), cut from recycled denim jeans.
The checkerboard pattern is assembled from pieces in varying shades of indigo, blue and faded white, reflecting the different origins and wear of the original garments. Original belt loops, pockets and stitching are visible and preserved in the composition.
Made in the tradition of boro (ぼろ), the Japanese practice of repairing and reusing worn textiles.
