Large Swiss Cylinder Music Box, 12 Tunes, Inlaid Decoration—late 19th Century
A beautiful Swiss cylinder music box, presented in a wooden case with a lid inlaid with a musical trophy flanked by flowers and framed by delicate fillets.
The mechanism, protected by an inner glass cover, features a pin cylinder and a metal comb, adorned with an elegant lyre motif. The controls allow for changing or repeating the tunes, as well as starting and stopping the music. The plate bears the inscription “Swiss Made.”
The interior of the lid still contains an old label titled “Mandoline Zither,” adorned with female figures and floral garlands. It features a handwritten list of 12 tunes, as well as the handwritten date 1898.
A beautiful collector’s item, combining the charm of mechanical musical instruments with a refined, decorative design.
The case and label show signs of wear and age, as visible in the photographs.
