Porcelain Biscuit – Madame Royale, Known As Clodion, Daughter Of Marie Antoinette And Louis XVI

Artist: D'appres Clodion
Antique white porcelain biscuit depicting Marie-Thérèse-Charlotte of France, known as Madame Royale, the first child of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, born in Versailles in 1778.
The young princess is depicted as an infant, seated on a stack of cushions adorned with trimmings, braids, fringes, pompons, and fleurs-de-lis.
The model is based on a composition by Louis-Simon Boizot, a French sculptor active at the Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory in the late 18th century.
The sculpture bears the inscription “d’après Boizot” (after Boizot) engraved on one of the cushions.
The bisque features meticulous modeling, particularly in the child’s face, hair, and hands, as well as highly detailed decoration on the cushions and fabrics.
Height: 23.5 cm.
Work from the mid-19th century.
