"Pair Of Biscuit Porcelain Plates, In The Wedgwood Style"
Pair of decorative relief plaques, The Corset Trial and The Comparison, France, late 19th/early 20th century. Two rectangular biscuit porcelain plaques in the Wedgwood style, with matte white reliefs on a celadon green background, depicting gallant scenes after 18th-century French engravings. The first, titled The Corset Trial, shows a young woman trying on a corset, assisted by a companion, under the gaze of a seated man. The second, titled The Comparison, depicts two young women comparing their legs in an elegant interior. Both plaques have a molded neoclassical border and are suspended by their original metal hooks. Molded signature “jm porté” (Jean-Marie Porté) on the reverse, along with serial numbers. These plaques are part of 19th-century French production inspired by English jasperware, but with explicitly French subjects, often borrowed from the gallant prints of Wille, Boilly, or their followers. Very good overall condition, no cracks. Delivery possible, please contact me.
