Art Deco Secretary Desk

An elegant Art Deco drop-leaf secretary desk, believed to have come from the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris, made around 1925.
The cabinet features a front entirely covered with a geometric veneer pattern, composed of squares arranged in a checkerboard pattern that subtly plays on the grain of the wood. This veneer work is characteristic of the Art Deco taste for geometric compositions and textural effects.
The drop-down panel, held in place by side hinges, reveals an interior fitted with two shelves and two small drawers, as well as a work surface covered in patinated brown leather.
The lower section opens to reveal three drawers, adorned with gilded bronze hardware. The side panels are accentuated by vertical moldings, and the piece rests on four tapered legs, giving the piece an elegant and slender silhouette.
A truly beautiful piece of character, both decorative and functional, perfectly exemplifying French furniture from the years 1920–1925.
