Raymond Art (1919–1998), Belgian Painter

Raymond Art was a Belgian painter born in Ostend in 1919 who later lived in Liège.
He greatly admired Leon Spillaert.
Beginning in 1954, he devoted himself exclusively to abstract art.
The two characteristics that best define him are, first and foremost, the technical perfection that impresses even the most discerning eye, and second, the delicacy of his brushwork, which allows light to play freely on the canvas, sculpting the subject with depth.
I am offering for sale one of his works that perfectly illustrates these two main qualities: the delicate perfection of the composition and the subtle play of light that gives this magnificent gouache its full depth.
The slightly tilted composition adds a kind of dynamic imbalance to the piece, infusing it with a sense of movement.
This signed work on paper dates from circa 1960–1965.
It has retained the freshness of its colors, a monochrome palette of white and blue on a black background.
It is framed in a new white-lacquered wooden American-style glass-fronted frame.
