Carrara Marble Mantelpiece, Ca. 1875
A large (190 cm wide), enriched fireplace-surround, made from a very subtly mottled white Carrara marble. The double moulded breakfront shelf rests over a panelled frieze of the same form, which is centered by a shield and flowers. The frieze ànd jambs are finely engraved with foliate details, traces of goldleaf are still partially visible. It can be also removed or we bring goldleaf again into the carvings. This fireplace is a surround, that means, it has deep side-panels and the shelf has on both sides 'retours'. But it can be easely reformed to a frontmodel.
